Jackson County ARES will be offering IS-700 "National Incident      Management System (NIMS), An Introduction" on Saturday, August 30, 2008, from 8:00 AM until about noon. The instructor for the course will be Dennis Gedeon, KBØNHW. The class will be offered at the Independence EOC training room at Independence Fire Station #1 at 950 North Spring Street. That location is across US Highway 24 from the Truman Memorial Library.
     The course explains the purpose, principles, key components and benefits of NIMS. In this course you will learn:

• The key concepts and principles underlying NIMS.
• The benefits of using ICS as the national incident management model.
• When it is appropriate to institute an Area Command.
• When it is appropriate to institute a Multiagency Coordination System.
• The benefits of using a Joint Information System (JIS) for public infor
mation.
• The ways in which NIMS affects preparedness.
• How NIMS affects how resources are managed.
• The advantages of common communication and information management systems.
• How NIMS influences technology and technology systems.
• The purpose of the NIMS Integration Center
     If you plan to attend this training, please RSVP to Dennis Gedeon at dwgedeon@yahoo.com. This will assure there are enough materials for everyone. If there are not enough takers on this training class, it will be canceled. So Dennis needs to know who is planning to join the learning experience.
