Every Wednesday Jackson County Missouri ARES will be conducting a Digital Training Net (JCADTN).  This net will meet at 8:30 P.M. local time
on the 146.97 machine with a link to the Blue Springs Missouri repeater to facilitate the widest coverage as possible to eastern Jackson County and other adjacent counties.  For now simplex operation will be on the output of the 97 machine 146.97 no tone. The digital portion and digital check-in will utilize the following digital modes: BPSK-31 for check-in then switching to MT63-1000 for messages handling and practice.

Please center on 1500 on your waterfall for both of these modes.

The net will have voice and digital mode components.

The Jackson County ARES Digital Training Net (JCADTN) will concentrate on the use of Fldigi/Flmsg and other components of these two pieces of software and others that support Fldigi in the utilization of digital communications that support ARES and served agencies communications needs in times of emergency.

There will be a voice component for questions and answers pertaining to digital communications and the session's training component.  The digital check-in and practice of the training presented will begin after the voice portion of the net has concluded.

In addition, a (Homework) assignment will be given that will help the net participants and those who just listen to utilize the skill(s) presented.

Sessions will deal with such topics as:  configuration of Fldigi, formatting and using Flmsg components i.e. Radiograms, Red Cross forms etc. ICS forms.  Other sessions will feature training on configuring the SignaLink USB; hardware and software; and FLdigi etc.

Here are two useful links that are very helpful in using Fldigi and Flmsg

All aspects of your station should be off the power grid.  This includes computers, printers, Signalink type devices, Magicjack phones, internet routers, as well as station lighting and antennas.

Be creative, someday you will need to operate your station when the power grid fails due to summer weather, winter storms or natural disaster.  Prepare now, practice and be ready.

While there are many ways to interface the soundcard to the radio, one good means is http://www.tigertronics.com/ using the SignaLink USB. It may be purchased online or local at Associated Radio. The Internet can provide many suggestions on the actual interface wiring to your particular radio. Several HAMs use a ‘mini-din6’ connector that can be used for either Packet or PSK type interface.
